When I started working as a music librarian in Les Mureaux in January 2024, I began tracking all the albums I listened to. At the end of the year, I wanted to see how many albums I had listened to and what genres of music I had explored. The objectives were. This is now a second year that I compile this data. You can find the 2024 data HERE.
New music categories added in 2025 are Opera, New Age, Reggae, and one category is removed - French Rock - that got merged with pop/rock category.

In total, in 2025, I listened to 297 different albums. I counted only the albums borrowed from our médiatheque and did not include albums from my private collection.
Like in 2024, pop/rock is the most listened category, with 89 listens, which corresponds to 30% of the total albums listened to. Not a surprise! I did try to listen less of this category and more of the others, but it's hard since there are many styles in this category and so much music published. In second place is chanson française with 50 listens, which corresponds to 16,8% of the total albums listened to. In 2024 chanson française was on third place, with 41 listens, and I tried this year to listen more to French music just because I live in France.
In third place is now jazz with 34 listens, which corresponds to 11,4% of the total albums listened to. I love jazz and I hope I will go to some jazz concert in the clubs this year, but it seems chanson française took my attention more. But it doesn't mean I don't love jazz less. When we will look at the percentage of coup de coeurs, we will see that chanson française didn't work too well.
In the honorary fourth place is classical music, with 19 listens, which corresponds to 6,4% of total listens each. This is a big change, because in 2024 it was on fifth place. I did try to listen to more classical music and hard rock/metal collection went back to the reserve, so I saw it less, so I listened to it less.
Fifth place is shared by world music and hard rock/metal colelctions, each with 15 listens, which corresponds to 5,1% of the total albums listened to each. I tried to listen to more worl music, and in 2025 I was weeding this collection, so since I was there, I listened more of it. Oposite of world music, hard rock/metal collection went back to the reserve, so I saw it less, so I listened to it less.

January 2025 is the winner! I was full of energy, dedication and motivation! Then in march my health problems started and everything kept going down from there... July was the only month when the number went abouve 40 again.

Out of the 297 albums I listened to, I loved 135 of them, which is 45.5%! That's great and a number bigger than in 2024. In 2024, I listened to 366 albums and loved 126, which is 34.43%! This is a massive difference! I loved the music more, even if I listened less of it! Let’s compare the data for the top 4 genres.

I loved 35.6% of rock/pop music, which is 5.6% more than the percentage of total rock/pop albums I listened to! I love it more than in the 2024! I loved 11.1% of chanson française music, which is 5.7% less than the percentage of total chanson française music I listened to! There is a lot of music in this genre that doesn't work for me, it's just bland and repeating, and just too modern and boring... I love jazz! I loved 17.8%, which is 6.4% more than the percentage of total jaz I listened to. Classique was a surprise! I loved 8,1% of the classique listened, which is 1,7% more than the percentage of total classique music I listened to! I guess I'm getting used to the melodies :)

In 2024 I listened to 366 albums which means I listened to 69 albums less in 2025, which is 18.9% difference! Ouch !
Why did I listen less? Well, there are probably couple of reasons. We did have a looooot of music events happening at the médiathèque (7 to be exact) and that took more energy than the last year. I don't have the datas on the hand, but on the last staff meeting I saw that I had way more public service hours than in 2024, so that means less time to listen music. Another reason is that my boss is preparing for the retirement, he has a lot of work and is a lot in the office, so I don't want to disturb him. At the end, I had some health issues, so maybe I was just less willing to listen music. Probably the mix of all these reasons.
Conclusion
In the 2024 blog post, I made a joke to do a challenge and to listen 400 albums. I forgot that challenge during the year, but as is visible, I didn't make it! But that's ok, because what I can see is that I listened to less music, but I loved it more! The year has been challenging, with many successes but also struggles, but I still listen music, in good and in bad. I still love jazz, and I hope that I will go to some jazz concerts outside of the médiathèque. We are starting a new collection in feburary or march 2025 - K-pop, so I believe I will discover a new genre this year.
