ACIM (Association pour la coopération des professionnels de l'information musicale) is a French association that brings together music librarians, documentalists, archivists, and other professionals working with music information—particularly those in public libraries, mediatheques, and specialized institutions. I discovered them in January 2024, and they have been instrumental in my music librarian journey so far.
They promote exchange and cooperation among music information professionals, which is absolutely fantastic. I attended two Rencontres Nationales des Bibliothécaires Musicaux, their annual conferences, and each time I returned brimming with ideas and inspiration for new adventures. They also organize RETEX (Retours d’Expériences), online meetings where music librarians discuss various topics. I've participated in two so far. Additionally, they provide a wealth of resources on their website, which you can visit HERE.
I believe every music librarian should be part of this association or, at the very least, follow their resources and events. They keep me informed about the current state of the music librarianship world and point me in the right direction in these times of significant transition. My médiathèque is a member of this association, but if your employer isn't willing to join, individual membership is very affordable—only 15 euros as of 2025.
